Katie Alms

Katie Alms is a recent Young Rider Graduate from Missouri. She has been riding Dressage since she was 9 years old at her family-owned farm, Taura Farm. She grew up in a training environment there—always asking her mother to start a breeding program, mostly just because Katie liked the foals. But, Taura Farm did not get involved in a Warmblood breeding program until after Katie moved to Connecticut. So, she just gets to visit every once in a while to see the youngsters. For the past three years, Katie has been living in Connecticut pursuing her training in Dressage with Beth Baumert at Cloverlea Farm. She is a student at the University of Connecticut where she is studying and preparing to go to medical school. Katie found her horse, Roodepoort II in Ulm, Germany in 2004. Katie and Roody were USDF/GAIG Region 8 Young Rider Third Level Champion in 2006. Last year she received her Silver Medal and was the USDF/GAIG Region 8 Young Rider Prix St. Georges Champion and Reserve champion in the Young Rider Team Test. They trained in Florida in the winter of 2007 with Jennifer Baumert where she was chosen as a rider in the 4th Annual Young Rider clinic with Edward Gal. Katie has also ridden in the USDF Young Rider Clinic Series with Kathy Connelly and Sue Blinks. She has participated in Cloverlea clinics in Connecticut with Conrad Schumacher, Henk van Bergen and Axel Steiner. Together, Katie and Roode were part of the Region 4 Team at the 2007 Platinum Performance Junior and Young Rider Championships in Lexington, VA. Earlier this year, Katie was a participant in the USDF Advanced Young Rider Graduate Program. This October, Katie will be going to Germany to be a student of Hubertus Schmidt. With the training she gets there, Katie's next goals are to compete in the Brentina Cup. She is thrilled and honored to be selected to participate in The Dressage Foundation's Advanced Young Rider Olympic Dream Program. Katie is ready to be inspired!
