Local Dressage Riders Awarded an Opportunity to Advance Skills in Unique Sport
The Dressage Foundation gives young riders a chance to learn from professionals.
Eight Junior/Young Riders will attend the United Stated Dressage Federation FEI Junior/Young Rider Clinic on April 12 and 13 at the DevonWood Equestrian Centre in Sherwood, Oregon.
Thanks to a grant provided by The Dressage Foundation, the following young women will have an opportunity to advance their skills in the sport of dressage under the instruction of Sue Blinks, a top dressage competitor and trainer:
Chelsea Pederson (WA), Michele Bondy (OR), Laura Ritacco (OR), Meagan Kinder (ID), Margaret Odom (WA), Jill Jackson (OR), Cristy Wilkerson (WA), Maya Dale Valle (WA).
The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) organizes, administers and conducts nine of these educational programs annually, dispersed geographically around the country. Junior/Young riders are chosen by USDF to participate in this program based on their experience levels and commitment to the sport. The format includes private and group lessons, theory, lectures, demonstrations and question and answer sessions.
“The Dressage Foundation’s role is that of a ‘banker,’ as it provides a $25,000 grant each year to make these clinics possible,” said John Boomer, President and CEO of The Dressage Foundation. “We are glad to be able to provide financial support for this program, as these Junior/Young riders will become dressage instructors, competitors and judges in the future.”
The Dressage Foundation's investment in this program reached $125,000 in 2008, with grants of $25,000 given annually during the years 2004-2008.
"Hundreds of young dressage riders have gained skills and learning, working 'up close and personal' with top dressage professionals thanks to donor dollars from The Dressage Foundation," Boomer said. |
