Frances Reifler and Lavantus, affectionately known as “Levi,” have shared a special bond for 15 years. Levi is a 27-year-old Hanoverian gelding by Lemon Park bred by Guenther Wieneke. He has touched the lives of so many throughout his career. Early in their partnership, Levi ushered Frances into the FEI arena. He has helped several young professionals earn their USDF silver medals and has completed over 25 FEI tests after the age of 18, an amazing accomplishment. He has taught several riders what a proper flying change feels like and provided comfort to those who had lost their own mounts and needed a gentle soul to reaffirm their love of horses. While Levi’s talent is amazing, his love for and gentle nature with children are what sets him apart. He stands patiently for hours while being groomed and walks at a snail’s pace for countless “pony” rides. As a fitting tribute, Levi is forever honored, as one of Frances’ grandchildren is affectionately named Levi.
Frances has a lifelong passion for horses and began riding as a young adult. She often tells a comical story about buying her first horse from an auction out west for $250. When she told her husband, he jokingly suggested she return the horse. Over the years, she has enjoyed riding, competing, and exploring the trails.
Frances brings the same energy and enthusiasm to the care of Levi. As equestrians know, horses sadly sustain injuries and Levi is no exception. She has always acted in the best interest of the horse and has been actively involved in Levi’s numerous rehabilitations. Levi now enjoys semi-retirement and meanders around his pasture with his best bud, a 20-year-old miniature horse, Herbie.
Frances has been and continues to be an influential member of the equestrian community. She has provided emotional and financial support to several young professionals, given sage advice, lent a shoulder to cry on, and is always willing to listen. She is the person who personally delivers meals with a smile and a story and calls regularly to check-in.
Frances and Levi’s impact on the equestrian community in the Triad area was evident as nearly 60 people joined them for their Century Club ride on December 19, 2021. This included friends, family, children, riders, trainers, coaches, farriers, veterinarians, judges, grooms, and barn owners. After successfully completing her test, Frances graciously thanked Burton, her husband of 51 years, her family, and Levi’s team, for their love and support in all her equestrian endeavors.
Frances and Levi completed Training Level Test 1 on December 19, 2021, for their Century Club membership.
