My first Century Club ride, Team #245, was five years ago, on my old adult hunter and equitation horse, Davos. For several years, we did hunters in the summer up north, and dressage in Florida in the winter. Since Davos much preferred jumping to dressage, I realized I needed a more trained dressage horse to advance in the discipline.
I met Farbough several years before I bought him. Kati Dagge, the daughter of my barn owner Birgitt, found him in Germany in 2005, and brought him to their barn in Bonita Springs, Florida, as a six-year-old. They rode and trained him, and Kati rode him successfully to Third Level in Young Riders and Juniors. She now runs her own business, Dagge Dressage, on the east coast in Southwest Ranches. Birgitt trains and competes her own horses. They sold Farbough to our friend Caryl Thompson, who had him for two years in Naples before I bought him in 2010 and brought him back to the Dagge barn.
Farbough took me from First to Fourth Level, in shows in Florida in the winter: Fox Lea, White Fences, and Tampa with Birgitt and Kati. In the summer, we have ridden many times at GMHA in Vermont, and NEDA Regionals in New York with my talented and patient trainer, Jennifer Mahoney-Goland. We continue our summer training with Jennifer at Samantha Williams’ Labyrinth Farm in Ipswich, MA. In the winter, Farbough goes back to Caryl Thompson’s Naples barn, playing with her horse Sam, and enjoying semi-retirement.
I also owe much to trainers Tori Polonitza and Adam Cropper in Florida. And finally, Marilyn Heath has been a wonderful trainer for many years in Florida. She has also judged our tests at both GMHA and NEDA Regionals. It’s been a great ride for us, and I thank everyone in both of my equine villages, in Florida and Massachusetts, for their support and friendship all these years. On to the next challenge!
Farbough and I did our Century Ride at Keith and Linda Angstadt’s lovely Bradford Equestrian Center.
Judy and Farbough rode Third Level, Test 1, on September 12, 2021, to join the Century Club.
