My Century Club Ride
I have been a professional in the world of dressage since 1977. Over these 40 years, I have owned my own farm twice, managed several farms, trained several horses to Grand Prix, and coached students to many championships, medals, and Young Riders. I have dedicated my life to horses and the wonderful people who have owned them. Over the course of my equestrian lifetime, I have explored many disciplines, including hunters, jumpers, eventing, endurance, driving, and western. I found dressage to be my greatest inspiration, and now I am spending much of my time judging and teaching clinics. I have been very lucky to be able to do what I love and love what I do for a living.
During my formative years, Dr. Max Gahwyler was one of my greatest mentors. I met Dr. Max when I was living in Indiana, and he came for a clinic. I discovered his great knowledge about the history of mankind and horses, and I spent much time with him studying the old masters and reading books about them. Dr. Max was one of my great teachers, and he inspired me in many ways. It is a great honor for me to know that he initiated the Century Club, and I drew his horse Prince, who he did his ride on.
I am thrilled and honored to be able to do my Century Club ride on Meadow Bar Mosby, a 30-year-old Quarter Horse owned by my student of 18 years, Stacia Allen from Albany, WI. Stacia came to work with me when she was 18 years old, and Mosby was 12. I helped her get Mosby to Second Level that summer, and we had a wonderful time. Since then, I have been doing clinics at Stacia’s barn, Center Stage, in Wisconsin. It has always been Stacia’s dream for me to do my Century Club ride on Mosby, and we made it come true on August 31, 2021.
I think The Dressage Foundation is a wonderful organization designed solely to support the achievement of equestrians of all ages and levels to improve the sport of dressage. I am proud to participate and be honored as a Century Club rider. This is such a wonderful program, and I look forward to doing it again in a few years on a younger horse!
Sue and Mosby completed Training Level, Test 1, on August 31, 2021, to join the Century Club.
