Davey, also known as ‘Carlingford’s West,’ is a registered Irish Sport Horse who was foaled in Ireland on April 7, 1997. His current owner, Hillary Moses, first rode him as a working student for Paddy Hughes in 2002, when she decided he was a ‘keeper,’ and imported him to the States.
Davey was a talented, athletic mount with a winning, easy-going manner, and the pair progressed smoothly up through FEI eventing levels to Intermediate (3’9”).
In 2013, Hillary started to train Annette Bickel on Davey, and the two of them have been riding and competing at the lower levels of eventing since then. Annette began to ride in a public troop at Watchung Stables in New Jersey in the early 1960s. After a long pause to pursue her education, career, and public service in Africa, she returned to riding in 1999. She purchased her first horse on her 50th birthday.
A decade later, she was looking for another horse to continue her training, hacking, and competing on. One ride on Davey under Hillary’s expert guidance was all it took to keep coming back for more. Davey and Annette live in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and have shown locally at Fair Hill, Plantation Fields, Blue Goose, and Chesapeake City, Maryland.
