I did not start my riding journey until I was 50, when my husband gave me five riding lessons for my birthday. Since then, I have fox-hunted, done obstacles and natural horsemanship. I started learning dressage 14 years ago when I came to Greenview Farm where DunMovin Farm hosts dressage shows. My horse at the time was a Quarter Horse, Wellington, who retired at age 34. I purchased a chestnut Lusitano two years ago, Hazecat Hacal (Cat), and he has taught me much since then and we have an amazing partnership.
Our assistant barn manager, Emily, owns a 25-year-old Arabian and she asked if I’d like to use him for my Century Club ride. Since DunMovin had done a three day show for the past six years at the famous Devon Show Grounds, on amateur day, we decided that would be our venue. We practiced and I took lessons with Emily and Greenview owner and trainer, Denise Daly, for several weeks.
Sunday, August 23, Hal and I rode First Level Test 1 with an awesome crowd of barn, riding friends and family cheering us on. I also rode Cat in the same class. Hal came in 1st and Cat 2nd. Presentations in the Dixon Oval and a “victory gallop” afterward were thrilling and unforgettable.
At only 81, I hope to continue my riding for years to come with 14-year-old, Cat.
I thank The Dressage Foundation for this opportunity. It truly was a childhood dream come true!
