Dalwhinnie’s Sandman was imported from Germany as a four-year-old. My grandfather had a very successful horse he raced in the 1940s named Texas Sandman, so when I saw an ad online for a fourteen-year-old horse named Sandman, I had to see him. His papa is Sandro Hit and dam sire is Donnerhall, so good gaits and lots of suspension.
Though he tends to be lazy, he came with confirmed changes and a solid training background. We won the Fourth Level CDS Northern California RAAC in 2017.
Besides his dressage talent and enjoyment of trail rides, he is a great babysitter. My grandchildren had a blast bouncing around on his trot when they were young children. Though he gets along well with other horses, he prefers the company of people.
Even at 26 years old, when I whistle for him in the pasture, he gallops to me. Sound, healthy, and affectionate. Doesn’t get much better than that.
