An item was crossed off my bucket list on May 17th when Paxton and I completed our Century Club ride. Paxton, an Appendix Quarter Horse, is my beloved 26-year-old field hunter.
He has led the field with Long Lake Hounds in Minnesota and Tryon Hounds in the Carolinas. I found him in South Dakota when he was nine, and knew we were meant for each other the minute I rode him. On non-hunting days, we did dressage, and he had heavenly half passes and canter pirouettes, though I never showed him until our Century Club ride.
I got my first horse at eleven and was hooked for life. I showed in saddle club events and then Morgan shows. The first time I saw an upper-level dressage ride, I thought it was magic and found my passion. Since then, I’ve earned my USDF silver medal on Wonderful, along with Region 4 Championships at PSG and I1. High Tide, my hunt horse before Paxton, was Area 4 Novice Eventing Champion.
I owned and operated a tack store in Minnesota for twenty years, where I was a USDF Region 4 Director for two terms and became a Joint Master of Long Lake Hounds. Now retired in the Carolinas, I am president of Tryon Hounds and their third flight Fieldmaster. Still having a bucket list, I’m working towards my gold medal with Iris. Hopefully, I have enough years left. Paxton is happily retired now. I’m truly blessed with this horse. God made a really good one!
