E. Lee Wynne, born in 1942 on a farm and ranch in Newcastle, Oklahoma, is truly a lifelong equestrian. Lee earned his first money riding a horse at age twelve. He paid his way through college, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Oklahoma State University with prize money earned riding bareback broncs and bulls in rodeos.
While attending Oklahoma State University, Lee met his wife, CaMary Berry, in a Horse Production class. Together, they spent fifty-eight years as equestrian professionals: training jumping and dressage horses, establishing stables and training centers in several different states, and teaching students who became state and regional champions in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, Idaho, and California before eventually settling in Western Colorado.
CaMary became a master of hunt seat equitation, dressage training and freestyle dressage choreography before her death from ALS in 2021. Lee rode one of her freestyle choreographies during his Century Club ride and dedicated the experience to her.
For the Century Club ride, Lee rode Cisco, a twenty-nine-year-old dressage horse owned by Julie Mertlich of Liberty, UT. Lee’s coaches are Margo Gogan and Cassie Benson from Hilltop Dressage Stable of Heber City, UT. There was a large contingent of adopted daughters, own children, grandchildren and close friends that came from across the United States for the celebration.
Today, Lee lives in Highland, Utah, and rides whenever he can. He continues teaching jumping and dressage clinics across the U.S.
