Dreams Come True
My love of horses began when I was four years old, when I sat on a horse for the first time and fell instantly in love. Occasionally, my dad took me on pony rides, and I would dream of riding in arenas, on trails, in fox hunts, and more. Each time around the pony ring brought wonder, imagination, and a huge smile.
I kept those dreams in my pocket until I was an adult. I moved to Centreville, MD, and met a wonderful “horse lady” who taught me so many incredible things about horses and horsemanship, and my dreams began coming true. I enjoyed many local trail rides and even experienced the thrill of fox hunting in Charles County, MD, I even rode multiple times at Fair Hill Equestrian Center in Cecil County, MD.
In 2018, I added another dream to my pocket. I began volunteering at Talisman Therapeutic Riding in Grasonville, MD. I’m a retired elementary school teacher, and volunteering at this wonderful, caring barn allowed me to combine my love of horses with my joy of helping, encouraging, and supporting students. Volunteering was a perfect fit.
Nearly four years ago, sweet Tumbleweed joined the herd at Talisman. He quickly became my favorite as I led him around the ring and on trail rides during lessons. Soon, I decided to hop on this beautiful Arabian cross, and we bonded immediately as horse and rider. He understands me, listens to me, and cares for me, even when I don’t know that I need caring for. His nicker always brings a huge smile, just like the wonder of horses did when I was a young girl.
I’m extremely blessed to have so many wonderful horse experiences in my life. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have the opportunity for a Century Club ride. I continue to hold those dreams in my pocket, as well as peppermints for sweet Tumble, but I now know that dreams, no matter how large or small or how long they’ve been carried, do come true.
