I think that the first sentence I ever spoke was to tell my parents that I wanted a horse. Finally, when I was 13 years old, I started riding lessons. I rode as well as showed hunters and jumpers as a teenager. I took a break from riding until I retired, at which time I asked my husband if he would mind if I started riding again. He thought it was a good idea.
Through a friend, I found a barn owned by Leslie Eppenstein, who had a horse that I could lease. That was the start of a love affair between a PMU rescue mare named Sierra and me. I started riding dressage, taking lessons from Rachel Owens, my trainer, and competing in some shows. I have been riding and enjoying Sierra for the past 12 years. This year in March, she and I were able to complete our Century Club ride. What a thrill, and I was so proud of Sierra. We continue to enjoy our rides even if they are a bit more leisurely.
