Memories. Memories. A farm girl was bitten by the proverbial horse bug before the age of six when Rusty, a Shetland pony, came to my parents’ farm.
Lucky me to have met up with a wide variety of horsemen who, over the years, afforded me the opportunity to learn something of the several riding disciplines plus carriage driving and ranch work.
I competed in hunter horse shows, eventing, hunter paces, limited distance competitive trail, dressage, and even had a short stint exercising my Thoroughbred mare at the racetrack before I bought her.
Now, after a hiatus of many years and no longer owning a horse farm, I can again experience the joys of riding. I rode Olaf for my Century Club ride. Olaf is an aged Quarter Horse that lives at Goose Pond Equestrian Center. He is the perfect partner to help me get reacquainted with riding. His patient, willing, and companionable nature instills confidence, and I am able to focus on some of the finer points of equitation. Both of us “seniors” enjoy our time together. We have established a friendly but workmanlike communication that makes our time spent together rewarding and pleasant. Here’s to many more shared rides.
