I was 43 years old, our daughter, Sherri Brown, asked me if I wanted to ride in a parents’ leadline class at a show she was attending. It sounded like fun, and that started my interest in riding.
I rode for two years at Bridge Acres Stable and two years at Greenfields Equestrian Center in Pennsylvania. Both barns had great lesson horses. I showed at local schooling shows in walk/trot/canter classes, while riding at both barns.
Sherri and I decided it was time to purchase our own horse. Dexter, a sweet Quarter Horse, was the first of many horses we owned together.
Several years later, Sherri started her own lesson and boarding program, BrownHill Stable in Narvon, Pennsylvania. I have been riding there ever since. I was privileged to ride Wrangler for 12 years. We went to many shows (just walk/trot) and some dressage shows.
My Century Club ride was on 18 year old Treeline, aka Oakley. He is a 16-hand Thoroughbred owned by my granddaughter, Beka Hurst. Thank you, Beka, for keeping him in shape and sane so that I’m comfortable with him.
A special thank you to Sherri and husband, Lee, for putting up with me and providing a place to ride. Thank you to my husband, Paul, for encouraging me. Thank you to my God who has allowed me all of the above.
On days when I feel I need to stop riding, my friend, Hayley Titi, says, “But are you having fun?” The answer is YES!!!
