Marie Schofield and Oro (WA)

Marie Schofield and Oro (WA)

Team #917: Marie Schofield and Oro
From: Lyle, Washington
Ages: 73 & 27
Combined Ages: 100
Test: Training Level Test 2

Marie Schofield began her equestrian adventure on a Wyoming ranch in the late 1980s. To the chagrin of the cowboys and their saddle horns, she and her partner in crime, Wendy Webb, began to teach the horses to jump across the ditches.

From that start, they went to every jumping show they could. Through many late nights of truck and trailer breakdowns and adventures, she found her way to the triathlon of equestrian sports, three-day eventing. In the early 2000s, she organized a team and won The Chronicle of the Horse West Coast Adult Team Championship.

Marie is the consummate eventer; precise, persistent, and passionate about the sport. Marie has been teaching both horse and rider for 20+ years. Her unyielding devotion to horses is omnipresent, however, it is her dedication to the advancement of riders and mounts of all abilities and levels that make Marie the truly amazing person she is. Her humor and constant positive presence in both teaching and riding are a true gift to the equestrian community. Many, many thanks Marie and a huge congratulations with love and admiration on this very special Century Club ride!

Marie’s partner today is Corazon de Oro, aka Oro, owned and loved by Rachel Bredfeldt. Oro truly has a heart of gold. He is a Swedish Warmblood cross who turned 27 on Thursday! He is coming out of retirement today from Trout Lake, Washington, where he enjoys cantering in the snow with elk and bears!
