Saturday, September 27, was a glorious fall day in Michigan. “Hark” started the day at the Lake Orion Library. As a Breyer model horse and author, he makes appearances and gives educational programs at schools and libraries. (Yes, he’s an author! Check out his website www.hoofbeatsthroughhistory.com)
After his library visit, he was off to the Rattlewood Farm Dressage Schooling Show for his Century Club ride. After a dressage career as a young horse, he has spent the last 20 years doing Carriage Pleasure Driving.
As I began to get him ready for his Century Club ride, I remembered how he liked to add “embellishments” to every test.... and he did not disappoint during his Century Club ride! When he tried to cut the corner to come down the final centerline, I applied my right leg, and in return, I received a lovely leg yield completely across the end. So many friends who have known Hark most of his life came to cheer him on and were pleased – but not surprised – to see him up to his usual antics.
The best surprise was when we finished the test; I saw Stayner Haller, a fellow Century Club member, there to support us.
Hopefully, we will do two Century Club rides in five years with two of our other horses. Thank you for sponsoring the Century Club. It gives us goals and keeps horses and riders feeling young and in shape!
