In 1956, when I was 11 years old, my father announced that our family would be moving from Massachusetts to Indiana. This was not a popular choice with us kids, especially my brother. To ease the blow, my dad promised to buy him a horse when we moved. He made good on the promise and purchased Bourbon, an American Saddlebred. My brother soon lost interest, but I was hooked! Bourbon began my lifelong love of horses.

I soon wanted to learn more, especially how to jump. I began jump lessons with Betty Tukey, who became a lifelong mentor and friend. She introduced me to retired cavalry officer and Olympian Colonel Raguse, who turned me on to eventing. Eventing became my lifelong passion, developing several off-the-track Thoroughbreds through Training Level. I have horses to thank for my professional success as well. My love of horses led me to owning and growing equine retail catalogs and stores - beginning with StateLine Tack and later Dover Saddlery.

Today, my equine partner is Chorey, an Irish Sport horse who has been my mount for 20 years! Chorey and I have competed in eventing and showjumping over the years, but now we enjoy going out on trail rides every day - rain, wind, snow, or sunshine. This fall, we competed at a dressage show and earned the honor of our Century Club ride. We could not have done this without the support of my family and the Apple Tree Farm Crew!
