Born into a “non-horsey” family, I don’t know where my love of equines came from, but it has been a dominant force in my life. My “obsession” has taken me down so many roads. I have fox hunted, driven Standardbreds at the track, managed breeding stallions, shown Western, hunters and dressage. I’ve met so many fabulous horses and wonderful people along the way.
I have two such people to thank for making my Century Club ride possible, Stephanie Vandeven and Phyllis Walsh. When I mentioned that membership in the Century Club was at the top of my “bucket list” these ladies started the ball rolling to make it happen. They provided the venue, the horse, and the encouragement I needed to reach my goal. Stone of Fire, aka Rebel, deserves special recognition. At 29 years young, Rebel has been a delightful and willing partner in this endeavor. After we completed our test, the many friends who came to support us demanded a “victory gallop.” Our picture is from the “celebratory” lap around the arena.
Today, at 81, a trip to the barn is the highlight of my day. It is my physical, mental and emotional therapy time. A horse listens, never judges, never gossips and never gives bad advice. I am still thriving on my relationships with these magnificent creatures.
Life is a journey. I am so happy to be travelling my journey by horse.
