I think my story is being repeated all over the country…
At age 69, my friend Paula Liefel took me to a local boarding barn, Timber Creek Stables in Shirley, IL. Timber Creek, in addition to being a boarding barn, also had horses for lease and riding lessons.
I fell in love with a handsome bay Quarter Horse named Jack who was a lesson horse in jumping and Western riding for nearly eight years. I leased Jack for seven years and now have had the pleasure of owning him for four years. I can't begin to express my gratitude to Carrie Bangert for giving him to me.
An instructor at a schooling show told me that Jack was no dressage horse and that I was asking him to do something he couldn't do. Well, he proved her wrong!
A special thank you to Maureen White, my coach and trainer. She took us on at our advanced ages, taught me how to ride, and taught Jack the correct dressage basics.
